Two years ago, {cv} and I spent a magical weekend in Charleston, South Carolina. I'm super excited because we are going back in May! In just four weeks, we'll be landing in the the Holy City for a few days of relaxation and rejuvenation. The countdown is officially on...
We'll have three days to visit new haunts, as well as a few favorites from our last trip like Husk and The Gin Joint. For serious, I cannot wait to eat some shrimp and grits, walk on King Street, and soak up the southern sunshine {with some SPF, of course}.
I would love to make it out to a plantation or two, but I'm having a hard time narrowing
down what we can actually fit in those 72 hours. This is where you come in...
Where would you send us in Charleston? We love to eat great food, visit the sights, and sip a few good cocktails. If you've ever visited or if you live in Charleston, I'm looking at you to hear your favorites. In the two years since our last visit, I am sure some fabulous new places have popped up. I cannot wait to hear your suggestions :) My readers never disappoint. Thank you so, so much for your help! xoxo {av}
I sent my friend the Design Sponge Charleston City Guide and she said it was beyond helpful! xo
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I visited Charleston for the first time last fall - and concur that Husk was amazing! Loved the bar next door and then dinner at the restaurant itself. We stayed on Folly Beach - a fun place to check out the beach and get some yummy seafood or tacos at one of their cute restaurants.
ReplyDeleteOf course you know I have a list a mile long of things to do in my hometown. If you come out to Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant- (where Ryan Renyonlds and Blake Lively just got married) let me know because I live right by there :) There are quite a few new restaurants (even better than Husk I think.) Burgers at butcher & bee and grab a drink at Bin 152 or try dinner at the macintosh. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteCheck out The Ordinary! It is one of the newest restaurants in town. There are great places to get a good cocktail on Upper King Street since y'all where last in Charleston - The Macintosh, Proof, and Belmont. I second Boone Hall and the most convenient plantation to visit and there is plenty to do and see. And of course, the Farmer's Market on Marion Square will be hopping on Saturday morning. Y'all have a wonderful time!!
ReplyDeleteBoone Hall for sure. Fig is an amazing restaurant right off king street and Sullivans island is my favorite beach. Poe's tavern is a must on Sullivans!
ReplyDeleteOh and Toast is the best breakfast I've ever had. YOU MUST.
xoxo
My musts in Charleston are dinner at FIG (seriously one of the best meals I've had anywhere), shrimp and grits at Hominy Grill and a carriage tour of the beautiful historical homes. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteYES! loveee that city! have the best time and be sure to take a walk on king street and battery park! i love the little cupcake shop on king street... not sure if its still open tho! xo
ReplyDeleteWe just moved about an hour North of Charleston and have been visiting quite a bit lately! We LOVE Slightly North of Broad {S.N.O.B} for dinner! Hope you guys have a blast!:)
ReplyDeleteI'm heading there for Memorial Day weekend as well! Some friends and I are renting a house at Folly Beach for the weekend. Maybe we'll run into each other. :)
ReplyDeletePoe's Tavern on Sullivans is a staple, as well as Fleet Landing and Hominy Grill. If you're looking for a great place to grab a drink, Closed for Business has an amazing beer selection, but get there early because it fills up fast. And if you're going to have a car, you should check out the Firefly plantation. Nothing's more southern than a sweet tea vodka tasting.
the saturday morning farmers market is a must-do! magnolia plantation is gorgeous at this time of year as well, as all of the flowers are in full bloom!
ReplyDeleteCharleston is my favorite. I have probably been 20 times! My goal is to one day, eat my way through the entire city...impossible :)
ReplyDeleteI would recommend Hanks (my favorite for dinner), Hominy Grill (shrimp and grits), palmetto cafe (best she crab soup in the world), and The Thoroughbred for drinks!
justin & i loved having breakfast at poogan's porch - it was delicious!
ReplyDeleteAw I miss Charleston so much! I'm from there and Ben lived there for a few years himself, we were looking at houses yesterday thinking we may make it out forever home one day! If you are shopping on King Street, stop in The Charleston Place Hotel for lunch at The Palmetto Cafe, order their tea and she crab soup for sure. It's one of my favorite places about Charleston...other than the Pineapple foundation!

charleston is my favorite place on earth, we just took a quick trip back ourselves. Cypress has lobster risotto that is to die for and then get the berry cobbler at Kamisky's by the market. Poogan's porch is also one of our favorite for a good spin on traditional southern food. There is supposedly a farmer's market stall with an artist that has very similar art to Hugo Guinness. and yes, Toast endless mimosas. there is nothing bad about that :) so jealous!
ReplyDeletemy picks from our last visit: husk, two boroughs larder, and bin 152. we missed trying out fig but i hear great things. have funnnn!
ReplyDeleteI am DYING to visit the eastern seaboard but South Carolina for sure! I hear its gorgeous! So jealous! :)
ReplyDeleteI live in Charleston and there are so many new and fabulous restaurants that have popped up recently! I would definitely try The Ordinary. Their lobster rolls (and really anything on the menu) will knock your socks off! Grab a glass of wine at Proof beforehand. Fish is always a favorite! It's a Southern/Asian fusion restaurant! The Grocery is a cool spot if you want to split some appetizers. If you like steak and mac and cheese, then you have to go to Hall's Chophouse (not new but always amazing). All of these restaurants are on Upper King St. Yay! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteJohn and I are headed to Charleston, Savannah and the OBX this June–love getting all these fabulous recommendations!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Charleston, but it's one of the top cities on my U.S. travel list! I'm going to steal some of these good ideas for when we make the trek - have fun!

Beautiful photos! I would love to be there.
ReplyDeleteoooo I loooove Charleston! Do you read Hungry Meets Healthy or Style Me Swanky? Both are amazing Charleston bloggers with wonderful suggestions in the area!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Charleston & moved back here after college. In addition to the restaurants you've mentioned above we have gotten quite a few new great spots. But if you only have a few days you must check out the Ordinary on King Street, even if just for a raw bar app before a main course. Maybe grab lunch or a late night bite at Butcher & Bee or if you aren't a super adventurous eater maybe opt for Rutledge Cab Company (Chef Robert Carter's the ex-executive chef from the famed Peninsula Grill newest place) instead. Who knows you may even see Bill Murray why you are there as he had input on the design and has been known to hang around there. For more ideas check out this New York Times article: http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/11/southern-exposure/
ReplyDeleteAs for plantations they are beautiful & worth a trip. My recommendation would be to Boone Hall, Lowndes Grove, or Middleton Place Plantation - you will recognize all of them from movies. Let me know if you have any questions or want additional recommendations regarding beaches or anything. Have so much fun!
I'm dying to go to Charleston...its not too far from me in NC and I still havent been. Hope you have an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteI've never been but my sister is moving there in June for medical residency. I can't wait to visit!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful time! Try Boone Hall, Rutledge Cab Company, Fig, Proof, maybe a jaunt out to Kiawah/Seabrook Islands? Also, Calhoun Mansion and Martin's Point Plantation!
ReplyDeleteXO
I also love Husk. My fiance's sister lives there and we will be visiting there A LOT since we are moving to Charlotte in July! We love Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island for lunch. The best fish tacos. Husk Bar is also a great place for a cocktail- right next to Husk.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous!

The Pumpkin Spot
The Hominy Grill! We just went there over spring break and we had lunch there... the food is SO amazing! Their shrimp & grits were the first I ever had in my life, but the best (I'm sure!). Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law is getting married about 30 minutes from there in October (on a Friday) so I am hoping we can use Saturday and Sunday to explore Charleston. Let me know if you have any suggestions when you come back!
