Exciting things have been going on behind the scenes in our little life. Though this post title is deceptive, I am far from preggo. {cv} and I are edging closer to an exciting/stressful/awesome/crazy time in our life: we're finally breaking ground on our future home in the beginning of May. I'm the first to admit that I am clueless about many parts of this process. Thankfully, I have wonderful sounding boards out there
{cough--you--cough}...

Seeing a shovel go in the ground will be a dream come true. I'll count my blessings each and every time I drive up to the construction site, especially on that day we can finally drive up to our home. I promise to share questions and updates along the way.
I'm anxious about all the decisions coming our way, but I'm incredibly thankful that {cv} and I are on the same page aesthetically. Here are a few of the Pinterest boards I've created to help get us going:
For those who have built or renovated a home, what do you wish you knew before you started the job? I can't wait to hear your sage advice! I know we'll need it! Many thanks in advance for helping me maintain some sort of sanity over the course of this build ;) I know we couldn't do it without you! xoxo {av}
Very excited for you!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I wish that I had been able to see our kitchen appliances in person rather than from a book at the showroom. I would have picked a different fridge and dishwasher for sure!
ReplyDeleteMy parents built my childhood home from the ground up- bought the land, hired people to build it, customized it, etc. It's so exciting! There's something special about creating and building your own home that's so different than living in a previously-owned one. Good luck- so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI love this picture - SO exciting for your guys!! I can't wait to see the process and finished house :)

So excited for you! We are working with a couple of clients right now who are building houses so I'm all too familiar with construction sites :-) I'll be here if you need me!!!
ReplyDeleteHow thrilling for you guys! My family and I were the first ones to build on our little street, and my parents designed the house together, while my Dad worked on the contracting etc. 19 years later, and they're still in love with their home, and as a kid it's so special to grow up in a home that you know is YOURS. Congrats again!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness this is SO exciting! much much love to you both during this process :) p.s. I love your home Pinterest boards - they're great inspiration even for my new little studio, and it's such a relief not to worry about whether or not they're properly sourced.
ReplyDeletecongratulations- so very exciting! it will be quite fun to decorate.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. So exciting. Enjoy the process as much as you can. When the stress gets too much just keep looking at how gorgeous it will be in the end!

All starts with the builder!!!!!!!!!!! We have built a couple times and the builder makes all the difference. In our home now, our builder was amazing. He only builds one or two homes at a time and was there every day. He was very honest, ethical............ get references, talk to others.
ReplyDeleteI've only done it once but I've lived in enough 'other people's homes' to know what I DIDN'T want which isn't the same as knowing what you DO want. One of the things I wish I'd done was to measure more in our last home - what's the distance between the shower head and the spray jets? how far apart are the island pendants? how high/low are the sconces above the fireplace? Those kinds of things would've been great to have when making what seemed like no biggie decisions but I agonized over (and actually got wrong) Also, don't ask your 6'8" electrician how high he thinks the sconces in your master bath should be because once the mirrors are cut and installed, there's no going back.
ReplyDeleteCarry a tape measure with you at all times. don't apologize for whipping it out in the ladies room at the swanky restaurant because they paid good money to get their sconces' height right. And ignore the funny looks when you're measuring a fireplace surround that is the perfect combination of mantel height and depth. Also, take pictures like it's your job.
biggest advice? have fun!
Congratulations on building your new home! That is so exciting and even more exciting that you get to help make decisions on how it looks! :)
