After the final chapter of Gossip Girl on Monday and this blog post from Joanna Goddard, I've had xoxo's on the brain--along with a special memory from 2008. Four years ago today, I woke up ready for a day of fun in DC with {cv}. With a Georgetown game and holiday party hopping on the itinerary, it was the recipe for a perfect day. Little did I know, {cv} had something more exciting in mind. We got engaged in the place where it all began--right on the park bench where we had our first date while we were both students at Georgetown. I still get giddy thinking about it. I know I always will.
{For our full engagement story, read this blog post from what seems like ages ago.}
My daily reminder of 12/20/08 is the ring of my dreams that resides on the fourth finger of my left hand. {cv} designed it himself and I've never seen another one like it. A quick glance at it makes me think of so many things, but the memory of the day I first received it almost always comes to mind. On December 20th, {cv} and I were no longer the crazies doing long distance. We were the couple who made it--despite the distance--and the world was our oyster. Happily, it still is :)
If you're married {or engaged}, do you celebrate your engage-iversary? Or are we the only ones?
See you all back here in your holiday best for tomorrow's Friday's Fancies! xoxo {av}
While I remember the engagement, sadly I have no idea what day it happened on! But I am okay with that!

That is so sweet! My boyfriend and I met in college as well!
ReplyDeleteMy Fiance and I still "celebrate" our monthiversary from our first date! It's kind of become a massive joke because we did it to playfully make fun of another couple that would publicly and legitimately celebrate their monthiversaries and it annoyed everyone. So it's just become habit to acknowledge it on the 15th of every month!!
ReplyDeleteso in the UK, everyone and their mothers signs everything with Xs. (Not XOXO, just Xs.) And the number of Xs can get really political - in the early days of dating, I remember being really insecure if I saw that Jon had sent a text to another girl with three Xs at the end! And if I ever didn't get an X from him... oh boy! (I wrote about it here a few years ago: http://betsytransatlantically.blogspot.com/2010/12/electronic-kisses.html)
ReplyDeleteand HAPPY ENGAGIVERSARY!

ReplyDeleteThat's the sweetest story ever! I actually just saw somebody setting up candles in sandbags to spell out "Will you Marry Me?" on this hill by my house and nearly died it was so cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post! We didn't celebrate our engage-iversary this year, because it was just 19 days before the wedding, but we did think about it. In the future I'm sure I'll think about it even more when I'm not running around crazy thinking about the wedding.
ReplyDeleteaww I feel the same way. My sister actually captured our engagement on film and his sister took fabulous photos (we were at the beach), so every once in a while I watch the video or look through the pictures :) I celebrate our anniversary and enega-versary because they are within days of each other (married 7/30/2010 and engaged 3/1/2009).
