Back when Pinterest introduced website verification in October, I didn't think much of it. Every so often, I would stumble on someone's Pinterest page with the pretty checkmark next to their URL. I decided this week that I wanted it too. I thought the process would be much harder, but truly, it was easy as pie.
Though HTML can be a little confusing, I hope this little guide will keep it simple.
I'm sure there may be other ways to do it, but this method worked for me.
YAY! I hope this helps :) If you have any other tips and tricks, be sure to leave them below. Since I'm not on WordPress, I don't have a better handle for what their backend looks like, so I just suggest doing a little research to find out the best way. I hope this helps to make Pinterest a better place for bloggers! xoxo {av}
P.S. Here are a few other posts to help you clean up your pinboards + pin the right way!

ReplyDeleteAnnie commented below on a great site for WP users: http://janegrey.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Verify-Your-Wordpress-Website-on-Pinterest :) xoxo {av}
DeleteThis is so perfect! The one thing I don't get though is why you would want to verify it in the first place...
ReplyDeleteverifying it means your full URL will appear in your pinterest profile + be available on search engines! both good things! xoxo {av}
DeleteThank you so much! This is very helpful. <3
ReplyDeleteThis is so very nice of you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this!! I tried a few times on my own but had no idea what I was doing!

This is great! I actually had to figure out my wordpress site on my own, and it was pretty complicated. Here are the steps that I followed: http://janegrey.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Verify-Your-Wordpress-Website-on-Pinterest . The comments below are pretty helpful too. Maybe it will help some of you wordpress-ers. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I had no idea and just verified!

This may be a dumb question but, what's the benefit of verifying your blog on pinterest?
ReplyDeletehey lady! not a dumb question at all ;) verifying your blog means your full URL appears in your profile, rather than just the little "world" symbol for your website. it will also be indexed by search engines, so it couldn't hurt things there either! hope that helps! xoxo {av}
DeleteThank you for sharing this Alison! I will definitely give it a shot!

Alison I am so happy that you posted this!! I tried to verify my site on Pinterest a while back but got frustrated when I couldn't figure it out. So glad to be verified now! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I would definitely suggest in this process though is making sure to click "Backup/Restore" and download your blog template before you click "Edit HTML" and make any changes. Better to be safe than sorry!
Thank you for posting this! I am bookmarking it to use in the future!!

It won't work for me either. I noticed when I cut and pasted the code under head and hit save that it changes the text. I can't get it to stop doing that. And every time Pinterest says it can't find it.
ReplyDeleteMines doing this as well!! Did you ever figure it out.
DeleteNicole
it sometimes has to do with how the text is translated in HTML. there are some sticky ways that a copy + paste job can cause issues (i.e. if ampersands and the like are involved). I wish there was a magical solution, but this is what your issue made me think of! xo
DeleteAwesome, this was easy and I had no idea it was an option.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I've tried repeatedly to do this. Thanks for good directions!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this. Unfortunately, Pinterest is saying it can't verify my blog even after following your steps. Do you have any idea why it wouldn't work and what else to try? Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteIt may have to do with other plug-ins already installed. I got your email today, so I can give it a look ;) xo
DeleteWonderful! I also sent a note to Pinterest through their help page and sent a screenshot of the error message. Thanks and looking forward to chatting with you, Alison.
DeleteI tried it today too, but it didn't work. I also had 2 (head)s does that matter?
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry it didn't work for you. the two head tags could definitely matter--wish I had a quick solution, but my expertise in HTML only extends so far ;) xo
