Happy Wednesday! Something must be in the water because I've had multiple friends report their good news to me lately: they're due with their first baby next spring! As exciting as this news is, my gift-giving anxiety starts to rise. What do you give to someone who just found out she's pregnant and doesn't know what she's having? Here are a few little gender-neutral goodies which caught my eye...
find them here: striped one-piece + whale bath spout cover + cozy pack of socks + Burt's Bees wash time tin + Sophie la Girafe teething toy + sweet pea bunting set + Big Bird stuffed animal + baby hands keepsake + basket weave blanket
Before the question even comes up, we are not on the baby wagon just yet--so back to the topic at hand! Since showers often come later, I would love a few go-to gifts for friends when they first share their good news. I can't wait to get your input on the perfect gifts for the newly preggo lady!

Such sweet gifts! Baby Gap always impresses me with their selection of gender neutral goodies, when my sister found out she was pregnant I hopped over there and found the cutest little white onesie with 'Grandma says Yes!' written across the front :) Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteMemoirs & Mochas
I know nothing about being pregnant or shopping for pregnant people, but all the babies I see on FB have that giraffe. Good pick!
ReplyDeletelove this round up (: duh! you're the best gift giver there is. and little may baby you're gonna get something in your mail box in a few days (:
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pressies!
ReplyDeleteI love giving something really cute like an outfit or blanket or something special like a handprint mould or engraved frame but I also like practical ideas like nap pies and bum creme (you can never have enough!!)
Another nice idea is a newborn shoot voucher.

This comes at the perfect time! I just found out my good friend is expecting her first baby! I'm on the lookout of things to spoil Mom and baby with :)

carelsesly graceful
aww this is so cute! we don't give gifts to newly pregnant friends here but i might just start the trend :) xx
ReplyDeleteEveryone around me is starting to announce new additions also so this post is super helpful! I love the idea of giving someone a gift when they announce the pregnancy instead of waiting until the shower. That whale spout cover is too cute.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
I got that same exact bath spout cover for our family friend earlier this year! I couldn't resist the whale!
ReplyDeleteWe always result to college football stuff for non-sex knowing babies. A mini baby football onesie is cute on everyone!
ReplyDeleteI love that striped onesie -- so, so cute! :-) The past five or so weeks have been FULL of births in terms of my friends. Five in total!!
ReplyDeleteThat sweet pea set is too cute! M and I just found out some friends were preggers and this is PERFECT! :)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh - i was just discussing this with a friend today! thanks for this post. :)
ReplyDeleteI love baby shopping!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonder I don't have a chest full of "just baby" items :)

My cousin and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby on December 23 and I'm planning to take home several gifts for them over Thanksgiving. I love the giraffe and the burts bees set!
ReplyDeleteHaha cute post! Every baby seems to have that little giraffe, I don't know what the craze is all about! lol
ReplyDeleteWe need to talk about the pea pod onesie! So so cute!
ReplyDeleteoh MY the sweet pea outfit ...awwwww!!
ReplyDeleteAdore this list! I have the whale, giraffe, and blankie and love them all! So exciting about your friends...are you next?? ;)
ReplyDeletelove these choices -- especially the sophie giraffe!! and the whale is just too cute :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteSo weird! I have had 4 friends tell me in the last 3 weeks and they are all due within a month of each other! Crazy!
ReplyDeleteSophie the giraffe and a bunch of onesies that have buttons on bottom half so that the parents don't have to waste a whole outfit on one dirty diaper.

Great picks! Gender neutral can be tricky because I feel like they almost always lean male. When it's a girl I always buy they baby Stuart Weitzmans. The are packaged so cute and say "My First Weitzmans".
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh...swoon! :) blankets i hear are such an important thing to have in abundance!
ReplyDeleteIf it's a friend that just found out she's pregnant...buy HER a gift! You'll have plenty of opportunities to buy stuff for the baby between showers and after the baby is born! My sister said that as soon as she got pregnant...all she got we're things for the baby, even during the Holidays and on her birthday! Maybe get her some cute maternity clothes or a certificate to a pre-natal massage or pre-natal yoga class! If I'm shopping for a friend that just found out she's pregnant, I always buy a little something for her and use another opportunity to buy stuff for the baby down the line!
ReplyDeleteEverything on your list looks great. Here is my two sense: Don't buy clothes, blankets, socks, or anything too cutesy because EVERYONE wants to buy that. We seriously received over 50 blankets and swaddles.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite gifts is a gift certificate to a restaurant (even just enough to cover apps and a drink) for a pre-baby date night and a book to baby. Here are some of our favorite books: http://www.thescribblepadblog.com/2012/05/family-favorite-books-giveaway.html
I also received a join gift to A Pea in the Pod from some friends so I could kick start my maternity clothes shopping guilt free. It allowed me to get a few key pieces that lasted the whole way through.
Finally, I love giving dear friends a gorgeous wrap sweater. You spend a lot of time pregnant and post-baby in sweats, being able to throw on the perfect cardi/wrap above your t-shirt and leggings makes the day more beautiful, even when there wasn't time or energy for a shower.
I realize these gifts ended up being on the pricier end...whoops!
okay, I know I said no socks and clothes, but baby booties (not newborn size - pointless when they are that little) are always a hit for me. Here are some more suggestions: http://www.thescribblepadblog.com/2011/11/saturday-shoes-for-behr.html
DeleteAnd I really appreciated when folks got me a special print or wall hanging for the nursery. Even with limited space, the few extra details from people who know my style well are cherished.
I love the idea of pampering gifts for the momma to be. After the baby is born I think books are the best!! I always write a little note to the new addition inside the cover.
