Truth: I had bold plans for this weekend. {cv} planned a few days away with his dad and uncles--and I had the apartment all to myself. I could finally tackle the growing pile of files, clean out our closets, and generally get ahead for the upcoming week.
Reality: I made a trip to IKEA and treated myself to a cinnamon roll for dinner. I organized like a madwoman. I started Revenge from the beginning. I didn't instagram. I cuddled my cats. I nursed my bum knee. I played my music loud. I loved every minute of it.

I am admittedly horrible at taking it easy. I always have been and worry I always will. I cannot tell you the last weekend I had--by myself--at home. We spent nearly every weekend of the summer on the road, so the honest-to-goodness truth was that I was really excited to slow down for a few days this weekend.
I used to assume quiet weekends signaled a boring void of time, which I now know is not the case. I am now {almost} up-to-speed on the Revenge hype {but please no spoilers!}. I also pinpointed my pen hoarding tendencies {I may have one from every hotel we've stayed in over the last 7 years--#oops}. I could go on, but I won't. Suffice it to say, this weekend was exactly what I needed. My to-do list may not be complete, but I'm headed into Monday knowing I can tackle this week. This weekend definitely reminded me that quiet is good.

Sounds like the perfect weeekend! I love weekends that enjoy lounging around the house, watching endless hours of tv, and being completely disconnected from the internet and social media!
ReplyDeleteI also love Revenge...it's such a good show!
ReplyDeleteAhh, my favorite quiet weekend.... a walk outside, relaxing with the TV or a movie and maybe a little nap! :) And some hot apple cider thrown in there, too. I LOVE quiet weekends!! (And Revenge!)

movies on the couch, walks around the neighborhood, catching up on all the blogs i love to read - and mid-afternoon naps.
ReplyDeletespeaking of long-distance loving...fiance just left to WA state for a month long air force training class...so i am going to fight my intrinsic urge to GO, GO, GO...and maybe enjoy some quiet evenings at home - cooking for one, organizing, and "getting ahead".

Revenge is amazing!! It sounds like you had a lovely weekend =)
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing to me! Sometimes it's great to just forget about all the stuff you should do and focus on what you actually WANT to do which is sometimes nothing at all :) After a busy summer I have been loving my relaxing fall weekends at home. A perfect weekend to me consists of home cooked meals, being in my pjs 24/7 and relaxing on the couch with the boyfriend.

I couldn't agree more - I love my quiet time (and i get so much done in this time too!!) I have to be honest, with a little baba and a working hubs, I don't get much quite time but I try (even if it's while they are both napping!)
ReplyDeleteDuring this quiet time - I stay in comfy clothes, I read magazines and books, watch my favorite series, pamper myself with hot bubble baths, hair masks and body butter, I have fun with party planning and little crafts, I organize photos and make lists, I listen to music and eat my favorite yummy foods :)

Quiet weekends to me are relaxing with a good book, staying off of the internet, and cooking some good meals. A little organizing and cleaning gets squeezed in too.
ReplyDeleteOh... and your pen hoarding comment made me laugh, because I hoard hotel toiletries from all the hotels we have visited. I've got tons of mini shampoo and conditioner bottles tucked away under our bathroom sink. Yikes.
Enjoy your week!
Good for you! You deserve it! My favorite quiet Saturday mornings involve sleeping in, cuddling with the cat and Andrew, making a yummy breakfast, and sipping coffee while watching TV...without any rush to go anywhere. Is it the weekend yet? :)
ReplyDeletei always have big plans when i have a weekend to myself like cooking a bunch of new recipes, or catching up on that craft project, and cleaning the entire house. it usually ends up with my snuggling with the pup and ordering in food. these weekends are rare though...

I totally agree. Sometimes we just need days and weekends of nothing so that we can recharge. Good for you for realizing that and embracing it!

I adore quiet weekends! Sometimes it is so nice to turn off all electronic devices and get other things done (or just to relax)!

I totally agree. there's this mentality that busy is better, but it's not good for you all the time! glad you had some space to chill :)
ReplyDeleteThose weekends are much needed every now and then! I am Revenge obsessed, I watched almost all of it in one weekend too:) xo
ReplyDeleteI took it easy this past weekend too. I watched a lot of "Real Housewives" and cleaned my closet. Sometimes these weekends are the best ones.
ReplyDeleteQuiet really is good. Weekends on nothingness are amazing and totally rejuvenating. I look forward to them quite a lot!
ReplyDeleteHate I didn't get to meet up with you this weekend, but I applaud you for just taking it easy! Wish I could have done some of that.. I am utterly exhausted. I cried 10 minutes into work because I was so tired! You also had a great weekend to stay in on the couch with your kitties! I do not blame you at all. Hopefully we'll get back to RI very very soon. I'd love to come in the warm weather and go out on the water... and maybe do a little more shopping in Newport, though I did do a little damage at one of the shops!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to relax! xo
I love those quiet weekends in between the crazy-busy weekends. Especially when the husband is away and you can relax and not have to fight for the tv :) glad you were able to relax and enjoy your "me" days
ReplyDeleteI just got home from vacation and had all kinds of plans of things I wanted to accomplish this weekend. I spent half of it on the couch instead. And it was amazing. (Sometimes you need a vacation from your vacation — especially when it's with family!)
ReplyDeleteI love weekends like this where you can play catch up with life. They're important for your peace of mind! Isn’t That Charming.
ReplyDeleteDying for a cool fall day to spend cuddled in a comfy sweater, on my fluffy couch, watching tv, pinning and blogging, with chili slow cooking in the kitchen.
ReplyDeletei am the same way! very hard for me to relax & unwind (thus the midnight blog commenting! ;) glad you were able to enjoy life this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely the same way -- my husband always tries to get me to just take a weekend and relax, but I have a hard time doing it because I feel guilty that I should be doing more productive things with my time. But it sounds like yours was wonderful, and I am so glad!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds amazing...there's nothing better than a weekend at home to just do whatever! And as much as I hate when my husband goes out of town for work, sometimes it's nice to have time to myself to do whatever I want or nothing at all :) We had out of town company this weekend that just left today, so I am totally craving an extra day to rest/get caught up for the week, but that's not going to happen unfortunately! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect weekend!!!! Sometimes, quiet time is what we need to recharge.
ReplyDeleteWeekends like these are an absolute must! :)
ReplyDeletehahah i LOVE it. i had an ikea cinnamon roll the other weekend too.. what is it with those things?! so. addictive
ReplyDeleteOoooo Revenge! Good choice. I loved watching it last season on the Internet because I could watch a bunch in a row. Now that I'm all caught up, it's so hard having to wait an entire week between episodes! #firstworldpains
