Happy Monday! What a whirlwind weekend! {cv} and I got home late last night from my work trip to South Beach and I have a few of my favorite instagrams from the trip to share. I managed to mix in some fun--outside of work--along the way ;) {If you don’t follow me yet, you can find me here--@amv529!}

I won’t bore you with a day-by-day recap, but suffice it to say, we packed a LOT into our three days in Florida. From a perfect Blogger Blitz Miami to ridiculously wonderful dinners, I’m still riding the high from a terrific little vacay. We had a stand-out meal at The Dutch and an absolutely unforgettable experience at Nobu. Poolside drinks all along Collins Avenue, be it at the Perry, Delano or Ritz made a great time even better ;) Another highlight was the bevy of dresses awaiting me at our hotel from Rent the Runway--that pink dress could be my favorite rental yet.

Sightings of Michael Kors {at the not-to-be-missed Yardbird Southern Table + Bar--during Blogger Blitz, no less!}, Mark Wahlberg, and Flo Rida satiated my need for a celebrity spotting. Along the same lines, I met one of my favorite bloggers-turned-friends, including Sarah {spotted in the last row of photos!} and a host of other phenomenal ladies at Blogger Blitz. All in all, this weekend qualifies as a tremendous success!

A very happy Friday to each of you! Greetings from sunny Miami :) {cv} and I made it late yesterday morning and have been loving a little break from our every day. With a few date nights on the docket while we’re in town, I thought it might make for a fun Friday’s Fancies theme. Whatever the date night--whether it is a movie night at home or a swanky night out on the town--there is always a special look to go with it. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it is certainly allowed. 2) These Kendra Scott Carlone Chandelier Statement Earrings are white hot, literally. They would certainly hold their own against the gorgeous lilac of the one-shoulder number.

3) For a bold pop of color, this Rebecca Minkoff Ostrich Beau Clutch would do just the trick. I’d feel like a bombshell with this beauty on my shoulder.

4) Simple and sweet, this set of J.Crew Gold Bangles is kind on the wallet, not to mention would be beautiful on the wrist.

5) Stuart Weitzman would put the perfect final touch on this date night ensemble with these Mischief Glitter-Coated Leather Slingback Sandals.

Happy Thursday, friends! My post today is dedicated to my love of all things "vintage", including old time travel posters. Since we're Miami bound for the weekend, I picked a few of my favorites featuring this sunny city! Don't you just love the bright and bold colors? I think I'm in love...

In digging for some great old posters, I noticed a common theme--killer one-pieces. I'm a recent convert to the one-piece, after a nearly two decade year hiatus. With my history of skin cancer {specifically in my tummy region}, there is no use in tempting fate and inviting new spots to appear. I may wear a two-piece from time to time, but I'm loving the look of a classic one-piece like the ones below:

Though I spent one night back in college on South Beach, I haven't been back since. {cv} has never been--and I'm so excited for a little r+r :) I'm curious what destinations are on your list these days. Hello again! I am back with another sweet edition in the {distance makes the heart grow fonder} series. Lauren and Amy {from the fab blog, Fresh and Fancy} met in college and were friends for two years before they took the next step. They're now married and living in the Lonestar State! {Fun fact: you may recognize them from the TV show, Four Weddings!} Read along to see how they helped one another follow their dreams--and grow so much as a couple in the process!

When did you start dating? Lauren and I started officially dating in October of 2005, when we were juniors in college. We actually met on the first day of college at Belmont University in Nashville. We were in the same freshman orientation group, but we didn't hit it off at first. I thought he was super cute and had a crush immediately, but Lauren was a little overly confident and I was a little bit of a snob! We were young and not ready for a relationship right into college. Over the next two years, we became great friends and I developed a huge crush. After two years of friendship, Lauren told me he had fallen in love with me...and the rest is history!

At what point did you begin dating long distance? We began doing long distance in January of 2009. We had both graduated from Belmont University in 2007. Lauren began working full-time and I took a semester off and re-enrolled in nursing school that year.  A year later, after three years of dating, Lauren received a great job opportunity in Los Angeles to work for Warner Brothers Entertainment. I had a year left of nursing school, but we knew Lauren couldn't pass up this opportunity. We decided long distance would be our only option. It was a hard choice, but it was so good for our relationship. This time apart solidified the fact that we both wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

How did you fill your days while you're apart? It definitely was hard at the beginning to adjust to the "single" life. I was so used to working out, going on dates, and making dinner together. I was in nursing school at the time and Lauren was working full time, so we definitely kept busy. Looking back, I see how important this time was in both of our lives for us to grow as people. We were so used to spending so much time together and doing things as a couple that we forgot who we were as individuals.  This time allowed us to explore other interests during our time apart.

What did you find most difficult about being long distance? The most difficult part of our relationship was just not being able to see each other and spend time together. As simple as that sounds, there were days when I just wished he could be right next to me. I definitely felt lonely. Another difficult aspect was when we would have an argument--it made me much more frustrated that we couldn't talk face to face and work it out.  There was always that feeling of "distance" between us, which was hard.

How did long distance change your relationship? It really helped us appreciate the time we had together and assured us that we wanted to spend our lives together.  It also gave the confidence to know that it is ok to spend time apart and not always do everything together. In our marriage, it has helped us to stay individuals, while still being married. Our long distance relationship saved us from falling into this routine in our marriage. We embrace our time together and our time apart, always knowing that our love remains consistent.

What do you enjoy most about the time you have together? I love that I see get to see him everyday!  I'm so glad that if I need him, he isn't a million miles away. I definitely realized through our long distance years that Lauren was the man I wanted to spend my life with and I am so thankful that we had that time to grow as people. It built a strong foundation for our marriage and I wouldn't change our story for anything!

I can't thank Amy enough for sharing her story with us today :) It is so refreshing to see someone appreciate the distance and realize all that it did to make their relationship stronger! Be sure to give her some love today! Enjoy your Wednesday, friends!

Happy Tuesday, everyone! With my work trip to Miami on the horizon this week, I wanted to do a little research on sassy beach cover-ups. In true sun savvy fashion, here are eight fabulous numbers which I'd be more than happy to sport this summer...

I always have my eye out for a great cover-up, so I know these beauties only touch the tip of the iceberg. The brand Mott 50 takes it to another level and creates clothing with UPF50 to help block out the sun's harmful rays. I've learned to take my cover-up seriously. There are plenty of options which can keep you looking fabulous while you're being sun savvy at the same time. 

I'm excited to hear about all the places you find your best cover-ups--because goodness knows, I can't fork out $200 for a cover-up, even if they're pretty ;) In the past, my best finds have come from Target, Old Navy, and eBay {yes, eBay! Hello again! I hope you all had a great weekend :) On occasion, I need that extra little oomph to get me out the door on a Monday. Today is no different, except that I'm changing my tune a bit. After finding this quote, I had a little wake-up call. If this isn't a profound statement, I don't know what is:

Don't they always say the hindsight is 20/20? What if we could beat that hindsight? I know I'm going to challenge myself to work harder {and faster} on the things that I have up my sleeve. It isn't worth sitting on them until I make the leap. I want to make this quote a reality--and am excited to see where I am next year on April 23rd.

Happy Friday, sweet friends! It's {finally} time for another round of Friday's Fancies :) This week, I decided we should all get primped for a picnic. The only thing that would make this Friday any better? If we could all wear these outfits--while having one huge picnic together. le sigh. A girl can dream, right? This is how I would get primped for a picnic...

1) For only $59, this Gap Gingham Linen Dress isn't my most extravagant pick, but then again, I don't think there are many dresses more picnic-appropriate than this one ;) The red + white check brings me back to my childhood--and fabulous meals of fresh-off-the-grill burgers and corn on the cob. 

2) A gorgeous pair of sunglasses is another picnic requirement. These Elizabeth and James Lexington Sunglasses would do just the trick! {It goes without saying that good sunscreen is also mandatory!}

3) Bringing the blue to the classic red + white combo makes this ensemble quite patriotic, I know. I couldn't help it when I saw this perfect J.Crew Droplet Necklace. It would also complement the neckline of this dress beautifully!

4) Part tote and part picnic basket, this Kate Spade Point Breeze Tote could play both roles without any issue. As a lover of bows, this beauty certainly caught my eye.

5) For a stellar pair of sandals, I have been eyeing this pair of cork Gigis from Sam Edelman. They are easy and fun--and don't complicate the bold pattern of the dress.

6) My dream picnic wouldn't be complete without a little vino, specifically a bottle of The Pinot Project Pinot Noir. I've had my share of great wines, but when I need an easy go-to, this is it! {The label is what first drew me in--are you surprised?}

Surviving this spending drought is much easier when I think about the purpose behind it--our future house! Plans are progressing nicely for our yet-to-be-built home. With each draft we get from the architect, I find myself mentally decorating each room. {cv} and I opted to have a large great room, so we have a slight challenge ahead in figuring out the couch situation. After looking at my pinterest boards, I discovered an interesting trend: I clearly love neutral couches, mixed with fun accent pieces.

The nice and neutral couches pair well with a pop of color, provided by these fun accent pieces. 

My current research points toward getting those bold bursts in pillow or chair form...

Since we've called a loft apartment home for nearly three years, we're lacking on "real" furniture. Though I can't wait to fill the home, I find myself starting the budgeting process now for the big pieces--like a fabulous couch ;) I would love love love to hear your learnings on the couch + accent front. 

Any advice as we look to navigate the process? Did you find the couch first--or the accents? Happy Wednesday :) I got the request from one of my sweet readers this weekend for a few tips on how to handle the start of a long distance relationship. It has been a few moons since {cv} and I first braved that uncharted territory, but it doesn't mean I don't acutely remember those long {and hard!} first months apart. Though I cannot profess to be an expert, this post does contain a few of our learnings about how to start off your distance on the right foot...

Below, you'll find what can best be described as a "beginner's guide" to long distance. It is {by no means} complete, nor is it foolproof, but it does contain a few of the most important tidbits {cv} and I discovered during our first year of long distance...

A few words of explanation: no relationship--be it long distance or across town--can survive without honesty and trust. I truly believe that a relationship with a strong foundation built on these two tenets can weather most any storm. Having friends {and, if you're lucky, family} in the city where you are helps to make the lonely nights easier. You simply need a few close pals outside of your relationship who can distract you and keep you sane. Along the same vein, mapping out your future visits will help you maintain some semblance of normalcy. Without a plan, the potential for getting your hopes dashed {when a visit doesn't work} is much higher. A real plan helps so, so much.

Being patient and understanding encompasses putting up with daily distractions without seeing them as a stumbling block for your future. Not every phone call or text will be exactly what you want to hear--and understanding that is half the battle. By embracing and accepting the distance, you come to terms with the fact your current situation isn't ideal. The end goal {being in the same place!} is worth putting up with the day-to-day disadvantages of long distance.

Last but not least, don't look too far into the future. I remember looking down the barrel of three years apart and it seemed like an insurmountable length of time. Not so! By mapping out visits and ensuring you make time for the two of you, you will be able to break down the time into more manageable increments--and survive those three years {or however long} with flying colors!

After a weekend filled with family, close friends, and {cv}, I am making the conscious decision that my happy weekend will be the springboard for a fantastic week. It may sound simple, but for me, it is making the start of a work week a wee bit easier...

Hello there, Friday! It's good to see you ;) For this week's Friday's Fancies, we're dreaming in pastels. I only wish the weather in New England would cooperate with my overwhelming desire to sport some of these happy hues. Here is a soft and sweet ensemble I would love to wear later this spring...

1) This J.Crew Faded Chambray Popover is three things: easy, breezy, and downright happy. I know I could wear this now until September and would never tire of it.

2) Rose Gold had me thinking of pastels, so this ensemble features a few pieces in that tone--including these Michael Kors Sparkle All Over Earrings. Soft and sparkly, these beauties are just right!

3) Light-hearted and lovely, this Alex Monroe Rose Gold-Plated Bumblebee Necklace buzzed its way into my heart. It's perfectly playful--I only wish I could snap my fingers and have it in my jewelry box.

4) Coral ranks among my favorite hues, so it is no surprise these J Brand 811 Mid-Rise Twill Skinny Jeans made their way into my pastel pretty look. 

5) I've been obsessed with Michael Kors watches for quite some time, but this Dylan Watch may be the one which finally pushes me over the edge. It would certainly stand out from the crowd!

6) Only in my Friday's Fancies will you ever see Prada. I may never be able to afford these Patent Leather Flat Sandals, but I can choose whatever my heart desires for FF--so I did ;)

They just rounded out their long distance and it is so refreshing to read the happiness which streams from her answers :)

When did you start dating? We officially started dating on January 1, 2011.

At what point did you begin dating long distance? We were long distance from the get-go. He was in Massachusetts and I was in Connecticut, so 200 miles were between us. The three-hour drive could sometimes be up to five hours, depending on traffic.

How do you fill your days while you're apart? I counted my blessings for full-time jobs and our love of exercise during our long distance days! Fortunately, by the time I would get out of work, workout, shower, and make dinner, it would be late. It was the alone time (and even dinner time) when I would ache for him.

What do you find most difficult about being long distance? I hated the lack of normalcy. We didn't get to do weeknight dates or just lounge and watch Chopped together. Saying goodnight meant a short phone conversation, rather than cuddling and kisses.

How has long distance changed your relationship? I think we've both grown up individually and together. I have become much better about communicating my feelings. I learned to respect how he copes with his emotions. We are both committed to each other, so it helps that we are a team!

What do you enjoy most about the time you have together? I love being able to hold hands, kiss, laugh, and just be in each other's presence. It sounds cheesy, but it is so wonderful getting to be in the same moments together.

Is there any end in sight to your long distance days? The distance days ended on February 18, 2012! M moved in with me--and now we're blissfully domesticating together. I am genuinely happy now. It is still really fresh living together, but it' is a dream come true. It is so nice to simply have someone with whom to cook, watch TV, and go to the gym. In my case, this person also happens to be my best friend and love of my life. Distance helped our hearts grow stronger--I don't think we'll ever lose that appreciation.

This post has even more perspective on their year of long distance. I couldn't be more happy for M and Amanda to finally be together! Enjoy your Wednesday--and I'll see you all back here tomorrow :) Much love for all your anniversary wishes yesterday!

two years.

If you've been following my blog for any length of time, you may have already seen this little clip, but I hope you'll indulge me in sharing it again...especially since today marks our second wedding anniversary!

Two years after Kate Headley {our photographer extraordinaire} shot this 8mm, I still find little parts which make me laugh/smile/cry--even after seeing it more times than I can count. The awkward still shot above? From the good ten minutes spent trying to figure out the buttons on my dress. The girls in the window? Those are two of my bridesmaids, spying on the first look {cv} and I had before the ceremony. The blue drinks? They were glasses of blue cotton-candy topped champagne before we discovered they turned our guests' teeth extremely blue. I could go on and on...but I'll spare you.

My favorite moment of the whole film occurs at 1:51--when {cv} does a little clap clap walking down the aisle. I didn't see it that day, but I am so glad I now have this moment etched in my mind for a lifetime. Here's to celebrating more of life's special moments with clap claps--and each other :) I love you, {cv}!

Happy Monday! Today marks {cv}'s 28th birthday--and the sixth birthday I've helped him celebrate. Since the two of us became a "we", I have always tried to keep his birthday special--whether it's with home-cooked meal {when I don't cook} or a cupcake in a hotel room {while he works away}. They may be little things, but he is worth it all. We're laying low on gifts this year because of Operation Spending Freeze, but it doesn't mean I can't tell him how I feel through a lovey-dovey blog post ;)

{cv} brings me more joy than I ever thought I could feel--and more love than I deserve. Not only does he support me in this little hobby known as blogging, he constantly challenges me to do more. {cv} works tirelessly to provide for our future, something for which I will never be able to repay him.  I can't wait for all the adventures ahead of us. It may sound cliché, but I truly love him more every single day. 

Thanks for bearing with my sappy post--I think we're all entitled to those every once and awhile. I hope you all had a fantastic holiday weekend! When my iPhone rolls to Thursday, I start getting antsy for Friday's Fancies. In light of my current spending freeze, it has been quite the positive distraction ;) This week, I wanted to explore the floral explosion I've seen just about everywhere these days--be it the blogosphere or the flower beds across Providence. This collage may be a little overwhelming at first glance--trust me, I wouldn't wear it all at once. Love or hate John Mayer, Split Screen Sadness was one of those songs which got me through more than one lonely night away from {cv} during our long distance days. It may not be the most hopeful of songs, but this lyric in particular hit me to the core.... every. single. time.

**If you're wondering, I changed it to because--'cause doesn't meet my grammar requirements ;) Sorry {jm}.

When {cv} was in North Carolina and I was in DC, this lyric comforted me on so many occasions. Regardless of the miles between us, we could see the same sky. I find myself taking this concept for granted now that we're together in Rhode Island, but it only takes a night away for me to regain that perspective. Even if you're not a John Mayer fan, but I don't think you can argue with this concept. I seriously look at the stars in a whole different light because of these 19 little words. Thank you, {jm}.

As an aside, I have plenty of stories lined up for you in the {distance makes the heart grow fonder series}. Don't worry...it's not going anywhere. I just missed reflecting about our experiences, so I hope you don't mind me stepping in today.
