Over the weekend, we received a formal invitation to our first Indian wedding! We're thrilled to be invited and excited to experience how another culture celebrates their big day. Growing up in the cornfields of Indiana, I never dreamed of the day I'd be invited to such an affair.
This raises one very important question: what in the world am I supposed to wear?
When I last spoke with the groom, he assured me I could wear a cocktail dress, but I certainly
don't want to feel out of place! Rent the Runway has lots of options, but sadly, those options
don't include any traditional Indian wear.
So, here's my question: which dress do you think is most appropriate?
Do you think some combination of the accessories would also work?
I can't wait to get your opinion on this! The wedding may be two months away, but I like to plan ahead ;)
{New to the idea of Rent the Runway? Read this post for more info...I'm an avid renter and swear by it!}
Have a fantastic Thursday--I can't wait to see you back here tomorrow for Friday's Fancies!
The link-up begins at midnight :) As always, thanks for all input! xoxo {av}
OOh, these dresses are all really pretty, I like the pink one a lot. I think it's beautiful. But the orange one is really cute too and I think wedding appropriate. Have a great time!

Loving #2! Then again, I'm a big fan of pink :) And I think the jewelry is quite appropriate.
ReplyDelete#2 that robert ro is fantastic for an indian wedding.
ReplyDeleteI think that Robert Rodriguez dress is the most appropriate for this event and is absolutely gorgeous! xoxoxo
ReplyDeletei agree with all these ladies! i love the robert rodriguez dress. you can't go wrong with a floor length dress when you know it is going to be dressy...and you can hind flats under there if you think it'll be a LONG day in heels!!
ReplyDeletelove the idea of rent the runway too! never thought about that for a wedding! brilliant.

i love #2. the pink is a gorgeous color, and for some reason i'm thinking long would be good for an indian wedding.
ReplyDeleteYou can really wear anything...go nuts with colour. If you want to feel like you are wearing a saree number 2 would work just right...oh and bling it up. Indian weddings are never neutral. Don't know what type of indian wedding you are going to so be sure to check if you need to bring a shawl or something to cover your head if you go to a temple or something.
ReplyDeletehow FUN!! i would go w no.3 most saris cover the shoulder-- most saris are also long tho. sooo maybe no2? and i love alll the accessories! im hoping h's friend gets married IN india one day (wouldnt that be a fun vacation?!) xo jillian
ReplyDeletelove the pink and blue dress. probably the pink dress would be better; just a bit more modest. but all three choices are pretty wonderful.. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have done some investigative work for you. One of my friend's from high school is Indian and got married this past year. I went and looked at all her wedding pictures on the Book. Guests who were not in the bridal party had one everything from long dresses to short cocktail dresses. I think any of your choices would be gorgeous. Just for comfort...I would chose the pink dress and add a fun bejeweled shawl (if you can find one). And, of course add as much jewelry as possible! As far as the gentlemen are concerned, {cv} will be fine in a suit.
ReplyDeleteI hope your wedding will be as gorgeous as my friend's. Indian weddings look so much fun and the colors are over the top!
i think the pink dress would be more suited, and that jewelry will make it pop! what an amazing experience that will be! can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteI would go with number 2! Gorg!
ReplyDeleteI think the pink dress would work best! Love the accessories you picked out! Hope you have fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the electric shoulder dress! But all of them are gorgeous and I think any would do :)
ReplyDeleteWell, well, all these other stylish ladies have beat me to draw. The pink one is stunning- that one or a variation of that style would be perfect, I think. And you must MUST glam it up with some jewels! It just wouldn't be right if you didn't ;) Oh my goodness, you're going to be gorgeous!!
ReplyDeletepink or orange with that fun jewelry looks GREAT! I definitely suggest BRIGHT colors as I'm sure the wedding will be filled with them! I agree though that the floor length could be considered a bit more "formal" and maybe more suitable!
ReplyDeletemy best friend is Indian and her wedding was fabulous and SO fun to dress for! How many separate events are they having?( I wore the J.Crew Jaipur dress to her engagement ceremony and a sari to the main event) I like the pink and orange options best... and definitely load up on bangles!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Tibi because of the one-shoulder look it has going on and I think it will go great with the accessories you chose :) It will be a stunning look with just the right amount of indian flavor mixed in!

I think the orange dress would be most appropriate for any function. The shoulders are covered, and sometimes, older people can be a little picky about that. If you're supposed to wear a cocktail dress, the orange one would probably be the best bet. Enjoy the wedding!
ReplyDeleteMy vote would be the pink one with a shawl and/or cardigan. Mostly because I love that dress the best, but also know that you'll need to cover up for the actual ceremony!
ReplyDeletei love #1 and #2, that pink would look so pretty on you.
ReplyDeleteThey're all lovely and wedding appropriate but the pink and orange strike me as more versatile in terms of fanciness. If you're unsure just how formal this wedding will be, those two are both fun options that could easily be dressed up or down depending on the accessories.
ReplyDeleteIn love with the blue dress.. but pink might be a better option for an Indian wedding... I don't know. Love love the bangles though! Ava xo
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about Indian culture or celebrations, but from what I gather from Facebook photos, I think color is seriously encouraged. With that in mind, I think the third dress is perfect!
ReplyDeleteIndian weddings are filled with colour and festivities! I'd go with the fuschia dress. The colour pops and in case you have to sit on the floor you won't have to worry about being in a short dress. Have fun being creative with your jewellry too. Chandelier earrings and bangles are great!
ReplyDeleteYou might want to take a shawl with you too just in case...
The long dress is gorgeous and paired with the accessories you've chosen will look plenty Indian even without a formal sari. A friend of mine went to a formal wedding in the Philippines last year and while the bride and groom assured her that a ballgown wasn't necessary, she decided to wear one and boy was she glad. Almost everyone else there was wearing one too and she would have stuck out like a sore thumb :) Can't wait to see pictures!
ReplyDeleteI don't have the opportunity to wear long dresses, so personally I would go for #2, which seems to be the front runner!
ReplyDeletei've never been to an indian wedding, but my pick is also #2!! i love long dresses and the color is great!!
ReplyDeleteok, I lOVE that middle pink dress.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting an Indian Wedding!! I really like all 3 dresses but I think the blue one is my favourite! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteI love number 2! It's more formal than a cocktail dress but not TOO fancy that you would feel out of place. It's the perfect balance if you ask me!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have a clue what to wear either. I'm thinking #2 could be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love these looks-I think bright colors and Indian inspired jewelry is the perfect way to go for this wedding!
ReplyDeleteI am totally loving the long dress!!! I think it would be perfect! And the jewelry could not be a better match :) Done & done. You will look fabulous!!! So sorry I could not make last "Friday's Fancies"...it was a challenge being on the road...but I totally look forward to participating tomorrow :) I am having a lot of fun with it! Oh, and I am so glad you enjoyed your Cali wine experience! :) xoxoxo brynn
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the pink and the orange dresses!! The orange dress with the gold belt though really speaks indian to me though. Although the long pink one could work just as lovely! ;) and I'd mix up as many jeweled accessories as possible! Bc of course, that's what the indian culture is all about! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI went to an Indian wedding a few years ago and it was hands down the most fun wedding I've ever attended! I had just bought a nice LBD, so I wore that, and felt SO plain among the gorgeous saris, even though I wore bold jewelry. So you are on the right track with the bright colors. The pink is definitely my first pick, followed by the orange. And yes, bring on the bling, and also show off those beautiful curls of yours by leaving your hair down!
ReplyDeleteRent the Runway sounds amazing, how have I not heard of this before!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to an Indian wedding (but am secretly hoping one of my Indian friends is engaged soon!) but from what I've heard, you'd really be fine in whatever dress you choose. I LOVE the second and third choices...I really think lots of colour and fun accessories are the way to go. Hope you'll share what you chose and how the wedding goes!
Pink all the way! They are all great options but the pink one looks super elegant and appropriate for the occasion. Have Fun!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and orange, leaning slightly towards the orange!! Such fun colors for an exciting affair! You are going to look gorge no matter what!! :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteI say dress #2, it's a bold, bright color which is common at Indian weddings, and it's the most sari-like of the three.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!!
