I lived in DC for six glorious years. When {cv} and I finally landed jobs in the same state, it meant I had to say goodbye to the city I knew so well. This is the first year since 2004 that I haven't seen the cherry blossoms in their full glory. I'm aching to see those gorgeous blooms--especially on a bright sunny morning when they reflect on the Tidal Basin. sigh.
Last year, we got married during the last weekend of the Cherry Blossom Festival. Though the blooms were a bit past their prime by April 10th, I blame it on the ridiculously hot weather the weekend before our wedding. No complaints from this bride though: I was happy to have a sunny day in the mid-60s rather than a sweaty day in the 90s!
With the disaster in Japan, the cherry blossoms are a fabulous reminder of what beautiful things their country has to share to share with the world. In keeping with that idea, I remembered the beautiful paper I always enjoyed seeing in the windows at Paper Source in Georgetown. When I hopped on their website, I was happy to see they were holding a fabulous promotion for the relief efforts in Japan:

Aren't those papers gorgeous? If you purchased a few sheets, how would you use them?
If you've never had the chance to see DC in full bloom, try to make the visit at least once in your lifetime. It's worth the trip! I'll just keep dreaming of our next spring visit to Washington...and living vicariously through my DC friends and bloggers! Happy Tuesday! xoxo {av}

I absolutely love cherry blossoms. I think I'd use them to make cards for friends that need a little spring "pick me up"!
ReplyDeleteI had to go to DC for art advocacy day as a senior in college... and it just happened to be during Cherry Blossom!!! It is honestly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen... and I feel like a big lame o for being this close to DC and not going this year.
ReplyDeleteIf I had that paper, I'd buy my bestie a belated bday gift and wrap it all purrrttyyy lol

What a great promotion, those sheets are beautiful. I haven't a clue what I'd do with them though, I'm not crafty at all!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love cherry blossoms -- but the funniest thing is that I am used to seeing them bloom in Traverse City, MI in JULY! Oh well, there's a good lesson about climates and growing somewhere in that statement.
ReplyDeleteThe paper is wonderful too! I would definitely glue it onto a canvas to use for decoration.

I love the Cherry Blossoms! They definitely make this time of year my favorite in DC. So far this year, I have driven by them on my way into DC several times but I haven't made the trip to walk around the tidal basin yet. It's one of my favorite Spring activities!
ReplyDeleteso pretty! I have alwyas wanted to see them in person. One day I hope to!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful prints. I love the fresh simple design. I would make little cards out of them. I adore sending mail.

ReplyDeleteI finally got a chance to go during their peak (the last two years I went toward the end).. I think I took about 900 pictures :) they are just so gorgeous! I love that paper too!!
ReplyDeleteThose papers would make a cool trim in a room for wallpaper! I heard such great things about DC but only went when I was young! I need to check it out as a 21 year old--night life is supposed to be great!
ReplyDeletei've never been to DC but have always wanted to go just cause i love history so much. but wow those blossoms are truly gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteAhh memories, I went to DC for the first time on March last year. it was love at first sight.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally obsessed with blossoming spring trees- cherry blossoms are divine. These papers are great!~ I'd frame them up and use as art in my daughter's room.
ReplyDeletethose photos are gorg! I love DC but have never seen the cherry blossoms in bloom ... I apparently always go at the wrong time! ;)
ReplyDeletehappy tuesday! xo! Lauren @ tickled.
They are in bloom, unfortunately the weather in DC today is the anti- cherry blossom/ everything good about spring kind. Good to know about Paper Source. I'll have to stop by the Georgetown store to check them out!
ReplyDeleteI've only been to DC once, but I absolutely LOVED it! I went more in the summer though, so I guess I'll just have to make another trip sometime when everything is in bloom :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post & reminder! I love Cherry Blossoms! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI never really had a grand desire to visit washington d.c. other than for the whole capitol thing, but you make it sound so lovely with the spring blossoms and I will definitely make it a point to see it during that time. Thanks for the lovely tip!

ReplyDeleteI love Cherry Blossom time in DC and am so sad I missed it this year - working in Delaware now is definitely not the same! Also I looove that Paper Source, thank goodness for the DC Circulator, I used to be able to get there so quickly from my office on K St!

That's so ironic that we blogged about cherry blossoms on the same day! Haha. Well, with the festival being this weekend, that makes sense. I only lived in DC for 5 months and it was hard having to leave so I don't know how you did it after 6 years! I'm determined to make it back there someway, somehow. That city is absolutely amazing.
