cajun catch-up.

Here's your second helping of my Cajun catch-up {and not the kind from Heinz!}...

We feasted on po' boys and we got blisters walking the French Quarter. We oohed and ahhed at the iron work on display throughout the city. We saw the artists displaying work in Jackson Square. We couldn't get enough of the powdered sugar-coated delights {otherwise known as beignets!}.

We took a packed streetcar to and from the Garden District, where we said hello to Benjamin Button and Sandra Bullock. Ok, Sandra wasn't home, but she does live next door to the house where The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was filmed! {Her house has the three gables, right next to the streetcar photo. Gorgeous, huh?} We even spied a few above ground cemeteries throughout the city, including the one featured in the movie Double Jeopardy with Ashley Judd. 

We also saw parts of New Orleans affected by Hurricane Katrina {and Rita}. On the left, you see all that remains of a house destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, next to a newly built Make It Right home. On the right, you see one of the homes which still bears the marks from emergency workers in the months after the disaster. {The drive through the ninth ward forever opened my eyes to the tragedy which occurred on American soil almost six years ago.} Despite all the adversity they've faced, the people of New Orleans are truly resilient. I'm excited to return someday and see how much further they've come!
