Though Providence had a bit of heat wave today, seeing this forecast
for the weekend made my cold New England heart burst with joy...

A few weeks ago, I picked out these beauties from Rent the Runway to wear out on Bourbon Street. Paired with some fun black heels I found while outlet shopping with Kristen this weekend, these dresses should work pretty perfectly. They may be a little bit dressy, but what better time to get fancy than when I'm with my girlfriends?

Back when I first announced the trip, I had fewer than a 100 followers. I got some fantastic responses about where to go and what to do {special thanks to jcd!}. Since then, this little ol' blog has grown a bit {insert me smiling REALLY BIG here} and I'd love to hear if any of you had other tips for our weekend.
We're staying just off Bourbon Street in the French Quarter...and thanks to {ch},

Are there any other restaurants we can't miss?!
Or local "watering holes" which tourists might pass by?
As for daytime fun, there are plenty of things on our radar screen during
our stay...but what do you think is an absolute must?
Even if you haven't been to New Orleans, I'd love to hear any fun traditions
from girls weekends that you've created!
Can't wait to hear what y'all suggest! {I'm weaving my y'all back in my vocabulary--I figure I can whip it out without getting the crazy eye like I do here in New England!}
Hope you had a great day yesterday...whether you celebrated or not!
Don't forget to stop by Bijou and Boheme for the next stop on the Oscars blog crawl!

Yay! You will love NO - I just finished The House on First Street: My New Orleans story by Julia Reed. It's all about her moving to NO and buying her 1st house. Its a great read ESP if you're about to visit there. She talks ALOT about food and wine and things to do! Have fuuun!!!
ReplyDeleteTotally envious of this trip! I think me and my best friend may go there next year, so I can't wait to hear about it when you get back! I am pretty obsessed with True Blood, so visiting LA is a must for me soon. I most definitely want to do some bayou tours when I go, I am semi-fascinated by the eeriness of them...ha
ReplyDeletei have never been to NO but I am really excited to hear people's responses as I have been dying to go.

i'm sure you'll stumble your way into the french market after snacking on beignets, but just in case you didn't do it on accident, you should do it on purpose. (: it's like a huge flea market. sometimes classy, sometimes trashy, always delightful.
ReplyDeleteif you're feeling jazzy, i hear frenchman street is the place to be for live jazz. i prefer blues, and stumbled upon plenty of it on bourbon street. (can you say blind blues guitarist? woah.)
also, they say magazine street in the garden district is a can't-miss for boutiques and cafes and brunch spots. i've only managed to hit the brunch...so check it out and let me know.
have so much fun! i'll be freezing and holding it down here in chicago...
You are going to LOOOOOVE it. one of my favorite places ever. lived right downtown for two summers in college. and spent many a new years after that there. even my bach was there (: Going back for my cousins deb in march. can't wait.
ReplyDeleteHop on a street car and go down St. Charles and ooo and awww over the pretty architecture.
For really good shopping- go down magazine street. I never pass this up! you can find some amazing unique pieces there.
THE BEST sweets and the cutest place in all the land is off magazine - Sucre. anyone with a sweet tooth will thank you for taking them there.
love the bulldog on magazine for different beers and yummy appetizers.
Camelia grill is a great place for breakfast.
Go to Tipitinia's for great music and authentic new orleans atmosphere.
My friend hattie did her take a trip tuesday - here - http://fairytalesaretruths.blogspot.com/2010/10/new-orleans.html
Anyway, so excited for you to visit this beautiful city!! You are going to have the best time!
Oh and PS - when you're on bourbon ... go to Pat O's, have a hurricane (or split one - they're big!) Enjoy (:
ReplyDeleteAHHH one more comment - port of call has the best burgers EVER. literally, the best i've ever had.

ReplyDeletemy sister in law wore rent the runway dresses her whole wedding weekend... and I loved each and every one of them. Helps that she is a size 0 and can rock absolutely anything but that's neither here nor there.
ReplyDeleteYour amazing plans put me to shame... I am not that much of a planner. I hope New Orleans doesn't disappoint! xoxo girlie!
p.s. wish I had been here back at 100 followers
I have only been once but you MUST go to Commander's Palace. Even if its just for the bread pudding. Once you try the bread pudding nothing will ever be able to match up. I agree with Sarah, the street cars on St. Charles is a must. Also the Katrina memorial too. I stayed in the French Quarter in the greatest B&B overlooking a garden.
ReplyDeleteHave an amazing time. Some of my most favorite travel memories are those made on girls weekends (our spot is usually Key West, but we are going to Chicago this year).
Can't wait to hear about your trip! xxoo
oh man am i jealous, that sounds so fun!!!
ReplyDeleteY'all are going to have so much fun! I literally dream about beignets. Take tons of pictures!

Those dresses are gorgeous and Rent The Runway sounds like a dream come true!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have so much fun on your girls weekend, I've never been to New Orleans, but have always wanted to go and am looking forward to hearing your experience and what places you recommend. Funny enough me and two of my girlfriends have been thinking of planning a trip there next time I am back stateside.
Enjoy and take lots of pictures!

Girl for all my years, and I do mean all, living in LA I have only been to NOLA maybe 3 times. Terrible right? But when you go make sure to get an honest to goodness real king cake and a muffaletta from this grocery story downtown. I think it is Central Grocery or something, anyway they invented the sandwich...and it is darn good.
ReplyDeleteSounds like so much fun! I think it's wonderful that you're all taking a trip together. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteFate is calling me to New Orleans! I swear everyone everywhere has been talking about it recently!
ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is SO fun!!! Cafe du Monte is the best!! (by the way there is the cutest little shop ever right by cafe du monte... if you cross the street and head toward bourbon st it's on the right (art work will be on the left side)... the have such cute goodies!!.. sorry i can't remember the name) New Orleans has the best charbroiled oysters ever... Also try Pat O'Brians... They have an amazing dueling piano and great outside bar area. have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteHi! New to your blog (and thanks for stopping by mine) I love it! You and your hubby are too cute.
ReplyDeleteNOLA is the best! And perfect for a girls trip.
Have a blast, I look forward to hearing about how it goes.

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter where you go... Nola is incredible and SO much fun! I've got a bachelorette party for a friend this weekend (in downtown Atlanta) and I'm soooo excited. I love girls weekends!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend plan! Loving your rent the runway choices, wondering how the whole experience was!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend y'all have planned!! I love NO for soooo many reasons, one definitely being the food. Obvi y'all are doing Cafe du monde (the BEST!) and I also love camelia grill and the shopping on magazine street...so fun! Have a blast! PS. Your dresses are fab- love the sequined one :)
ReplyDeleteYAY! I remember making a suggestion about your trip! I was actually wondering what you decided on the other day. It just popped in my head randomly. :)
ReplyDeleteYou will have so much fun, I bet! Especially with good weather!! I've never been to NOLA but I would love to go. Please eat a million beignets for me? And also take a million pictures, k? I can't wait to hear/see all about it!!!
Love the filter of the first photos, so nostalgic. I guess I have to prepare mine, so excited after reading your article
